Do you know how neurodivergent people communicate online?

Daily writing prompt
In what ways do you communicate online?

Me neither, honestly, because not every neurodivergent person communicates the same way.

But I communicate online (outside of work purposes), I’m using any of my two desktop computers (PC and a Chrome OS Chromebox), three laptop computers (MacBook, Chromebook, and PC), two Android phones for business (Pixel 4a & Pixel 6), and/or iPhone (12 Pro Max).

Back to the point, though, many neurodivergent people, myself included, find having an online presence liberating as “the real world” is often way too overwhelming for us to successfully engage with.

For me, communicating online means doing what I can to communicate the things that I believe in, relevant information that I may know or, simply, to have fun.

The internet, in general, has given me everything, from the ability to learn new things, to the ability to complete my Bachelor’s degree and the Master’s degree courses that I did, all the way to getting a career (after a long period of unemployment) and, now, learning new things on Coursera and beginning what I hope can become a successful series of online endeavors and monetization methods.

What the internet has, especially, given me is the ability to work on and practice my writing, no matter what time of day (for instance, it is just around 4 AM here in the Houston, Texas area).

Now, if you’re wondering about why I have so many devices…

Yes, my ADHD makes it so that I use any of these devices on at least a weekly basis and my OCD makes it completely possible for me to compartmentalize how I use each device.

And basically:

  • The desktop PC is for streaming.
  • The desktop Chromebox is for my Coursera courses and basic website editing.
  • The laptop Chromebook is for the same purposes as the Chromebox for when I don’t feel like staying in one place.
  • The MacBook is for high-level work (programming, photo editing, and video editing) for the business that I have been trying to start.
  • The Pixel 6 is my main phone for business use (including social media).
  • The Pixel 4a is my backup phone for business use.
  • The iPhone is for my personal use.
  • The PC laptop is the main computer for my music hobby (though I don’t use it often).

Yes, I’m autistic, have ADHD, and have OCD. I am neurodivergent, I am quirky, and I write exactly how I would speak if I didn’t have a speech impediment or stuttered on a regular basis.
