Redefining identity (because who are we?)

NOTE: My posts are a mental roller-coaster ride, be prepared for this.

Who I am is who I was meant to be

Despite my resistance.

Who I will become can be who I aspire to be

Despite insecurities.

Humanity is the most important identity that we have

Because our shared humanity holds the key to understanding all of our own identities.

Identity is a guidepost for us to understand how the world defines us

But identity is also among the most personal of decisions

And among the most personal of existences.

Identity is important, not because we must differentiate ourselves, but because we must value each other

And because community allows for our collective survival

And because community exists for those who can be in solidarity with each other.

When individual communities are developed, strengthened and aspire for better

Other communities can do the same.

Identity is not the enemy

Oppression is the curse that deceives us into believing that other communities and their identities are our biggest threats.

The reality is that power and greed, not identity, truly corrupts.

Enemies are made of neighbors because of power and greed.

Identites are lost because of power and greed.

So we must have strong identities

And strong communities

And strong cross-sectional solidarities

To ensure that our collective humanity can be respected.
